The Dune movies are all based on the Dune novels by Frank Herbert, who was a genius. The books are infinitely complex, and also infinitely better than any of the movies. That being said, the movies are still rather cool, even with all their idiosyncrasies. The 1984 version sticks closer to the book in some respects, but is awkward and cheesy. The 2000 miniseries was much neater, but departed from the book. The Children of Dune miniseries was the best of the three, with amazing music and a great visual presence. All three have some interesting hair...
